If you have lived through (or are living through) sexual trauma, you may feel alone and confused. And uncertain about what to do.
We hear you, we see you, we understand.
We want to say, first, that it is imperative that you find someone you can trust to tell. Being safe is something you haven’t had. To have someone to walk with you (in person, in real-time) through this suffering will help. It may be a trusted someone—truly trustable and trustworthy (therapist, friend, relative, grief group, community outreach program) who will hold your words in confidence and be present with you (even when you are apart) as you figure out next steps.
Your experience is individual. That is important. And so are you.
We often say that My Voice Can Speak is dedicated to is the process of unfurling and re-emerging after sexual trauma. We want you to unfurl and re-emerge. Safely. Lovingly. In the time you need.
Unfurling and reemerging are both verbs. That is by design. They symbolize movement, deepening, growing, developing, even in stillness. My Voice Can Speak supports recovery in all its shapes and forms and stages for people in all our shapes and forms and stages.
Trauma may be experienced with others—as in, at the same time or under the same circumstances. But, in reality, we experience the pain and terror alone. This makes having a support system (as mentioned above) important. Your support system may change.
